Recently, drones have been all over the news. Commercial applications of drones are taking off and with drones having become much cheaper, every day we read some related news. This blog is intended to keep you updated with everything that happens in the exciting world of drones.
Let's start with the basics.
What is a drone?
According to Wikipedia, the basic definition of a drone, also known as an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), is an aircraft without a human pilot aboard. Drones can either be controlled by a 'pilot' on the ground or carry out autonomous flights depending on the capability of the drone. Pilot controlled drones are more common as of now.
The use of the modern day drones can be traced back to the 1980's and 1990's. The US started military applications by using drones for surveillance purposes while in Japan drones were being used in agricultural applications. But in the past 5 years, with drone technology having become much cheaper, we are getting to see some very innovative uses of drones. Apart from military and agriculture, drones are being increasingly touted to revolutionize photography, deliveries, survey damages, help in controlling operations for relief work and many more.
The next post will take a look at the different types of drones that exist currently.
